Dry Brushing Your Way To Smoother More Balanced Skin
I recently have tried a technique called dry brushing which works by stimulating the lymphatic system to move waste out of the body. The lymphatic system is located just below the skin’s surface. When we are moving (exercising, doing manual labor, etc.) our lymph fluid is moving through out our bodies at a good pace.
However, if you are primarily sedentary and don’t work out regularly or move around at home or at your job, then the lymph system is not able to move toxins through your system and out of your body. When you are slow and sluggish, so is the removal of waste which is just a vicious cycle ending up with the same sluggish overall feeling.
When you begin to dry brushing, you will notice your body feeling more awake and this will not only lead to more balanced skin moisture, but you will feel more energized and awake. Your skin will feel tighter and firmer with time and will feel softer, smoother and more moisturized.
There are many organs in the body which help to eliminate toxins, the skin is the largest of these organs. It is the last one to receive nutrients from the body, and therefore is the first one to show signs of distress.
You’ll want to get a long handled dry brush (very soft bristles) and make sure it is a vegetable bristle brush. There are many that look like these mimicking their color, made of synthetic nylon which irritate and harm the skin.
The best time to do this is right before you get into the shower, start at your feet and work your way up your calves and thighs. Next brush your hands and up your arms, brush upward on your abdomen, downward on your neck, shoulders and back. Generally, you’ll want to brush downward on areas above your heart, and upward on areas below your heart. You can follow the general guidelines in the picture below.
Don’t forget to brush your butt too ;) (this technique will eliminate your cellulite!!!). There’s also a special type of dry brush just for cellulite. As you can see they’re not made of bristles, there more like nubs that massage away your cellulite.
Any area where you have cellulite, you’ll want to brush in small circles for a couple seconds longer than other areas. Do not brush sensitive areas like your face, genitals, or nipples, however you can and should brush gently on your armpits since these are major lymph nodes.
All this may sound like it is painful, but you are using a light touch with a soft bristled brush so it feels more like a massage and it only takes 5 minutes daily, or if you prefer 15 minutes 2 to 3 times a week. Also, make sure to wash your brush with soap and water on a weekly basis.
All this brushing will stimulate you immune system, and help to rid your body of waste, toxins, and viruses and bacteria. The end result is more energy, vitality, less sickness, and more balanced skin.
